CASE STUDY – VACCINE ROLLOUT
Part of a specialist vaccine task force
From 2021 to 2022, the Department for Business Engineering and Industrial Strategy had a number of priorities. These included tackling climate change, boosting long-term growth, and helping businesses to bounce back from COVID-19.
As part of the UK’s response to COVID-19, the BEIS was tasked with accelerating the development and manufacture of a vaccine. To do this, a specialist task force of pharmaceutical, industry, and government experts was assembled, with the aim of ensuring the incoming vaccine rollout went as smoothly as possible.
With so many moving parts, it was clear that someone with comprehensive supply chain expertise would be needed. That’s where Hexagon came in.
We led the Supply Chain workstream for the UK COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force, which was essentially made up of two parts. The first of these workstreams involved coordinating and planning the inbound supply of vaccines into the UK from various different manufacturers.
The second workstream involved a thorough risk and resilience assessment of the supply chain, in order to provide the support it needed and minimise the risk of disruption.
